LATH involved in the completion of Malawi's first Biosafety Level 3 laboratory

LATH is involved, as a partner of the Tuberculosis Control Assistance programme (TBCAP) project in Malawi, in providing specialist laboratory technical assistance for the refurbishment of the National Tuberculosis Programmes Central Reference Laboratory. This laboratory has been refurbished to a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) standard to provide a safer working environment for staff. It is the first BSL-3 laboratory in the country. The laboratory was officially handed over to the government by USAID on the 1st October 2009. The physical improvements to the Central Reference Laboratory will now form the basis for systematic improvements to improve the quality of results issued. This phase of improvements will also be supported by TBCAP in partnership with LATH.
